finned pile weatherstrip
Finned weather strip brush, also sold as fin seal or finned pile weatherstrip, has a thin fin standing in the center of the PP yarn pile. The fin blocks dust, wind and water that pass through ordinary pile, while the pile keeps the sash sliding smoothly.
Ordinary wool pile seals by density alone, so fine dust and wind-driven rain can still work through the yarn. A finned weather strip brush adds a thin fin in the middle of the pile, usually as tall as the pile or slightly lower, which acts as a barrier inside the brush.
Buyers move to finned pile when a regular strip leaves drafts, whistling or dust lines in sliding windows and doors, especially in windy, dusty or rainy regions.
Finned pile is usually written as base width x pile height x fin height in millimeters, for example 7x6x6. Some suppliers write only base width and pile height and add FIN. These combinations appear often in finned pile orders; the final size follows the groove and gap.

Finned pile costs more than regular pile and the fin can add some sliding resistance, so use it where the extra barrier is needed rather than everywhere.

Finned pile is common on the outer track and interlock of aluminum sliding windows, on sliding balcony and patio doors, and in UPVC sliding systems where the profile was designed for a fin seal.
If the gap is ordinary, regular pile may be enough. For smoother sliding, siliconed yarn can be combined with the fin.
